Salem Al-Shemmari develops a better way to diagnose a specific type of blood cancer

Some cancers are difficult to diagnose through physical examinations alone. Salem Al-Shemmari is using genetic markers to diagnose patients who may have a type of blood cancer known as Myeloproliferative Neoplasm (MPN). He setup a lab to test for mutations in the signaling gene JAK2 and other biomarkers for MPN. This will help in diagnosing and providing proper treatment choices in the future.
